Career advice 30 something

In my teens, I always would have expected that by the time I was in my early 30s that I would pretty much have things sorted out.

I would be in a job that I liked, that satisfied me and I wouldn't be toiling with career ideas the way that I had in those early days at university or even as far back as high school.

However, here I am in my early 30s and still I find myself thinking about a different career now and then. I even took one of those careers tests online tonight hoping that it would uncover some undiscovered interest that I never knew about, but it didn't.

As expected, it revaled that the ideal role for me would be:
• Creative
• Imaginative
• Original
• Expressive

Nothing that I didn't already know, but nonetheless frustrating at the same time. Maybe I'm just one of those people that will always be chasing something else. Maybe I'm just a dreamer. Maybe no one is ever really 100% happy with their career choice?

ASUS laptop letdown

I don't know about you, but I'm a bit of a tech head. Each year I look forward to getting a new laptop and look forward to the new features that it will include. This year it's included a faster processor, more RAM and a blu-ray disc drive.

What I didn't expect though was a grainy screen that I find so off-putting, that I would prefer to hook my new laptop up to a separate monitor.

On Friday of this week I went shopping and decided on a nice fast ASUS. I've been sceptical of this brand in the past, but I was assured by the sales staff that they were a fantastic brand who has now come into a league of their own, but alas I would beg to differ.

The ASUS has most of what I expected, apart from the screen. The only thing I can liken the screen to is having a piece of white sandpaper on your screen and trying not to pretend that you can see the little grains. Not at all what you’d expect after spending a few thousand dollars.

Upon doing some extra research, I have now learnt that this a universal problem...not with just ASUS but depending on what parts they use on your system. Having said that, I have contact ASUS customer service to vent my frustrations and am awaiting their response.

From what I've heard, some people with similar problems have had great results with ASUS agreeing to replace the screen with a better part....some haven't been so lucky.

I'll keep you updated with my progress.

Has anyone else had such problems after spending many $$$ on a new laptop?

How could TV win you back?

With Australia's ratings season set to get under way, we will soon be bombarded by new promos, new graphics, new sets and in some cases - even new talent. This happens in news programs, a current affairs programs and even our soaps.

Every year the networks go out of their way to impress us with new ways of presenting the same old programs - some which should have been axed long ago.

But does this really work?

If you don't like A Current Affair but they change the set, do you automatically give it a second chance and start watching it?

What about a show like Neighbours? In 2007 it was highly publicised that Neighbours would be going into a new era with higher production values than ever before (New look for Neighbours, The Age) .

Most of this was due largely to a cash injection by a new network overseas, but at the end of the day have the changes made to Neighbours forced anyone to come back and give it a second chance?

Besides a new tape quality, a new family and a few new sets, what would Neighbours have to do to get you back?

iPod Touch = Ebay overload???

Being a bit of a tech junkie, I can't help but be excited about the release of the Apple iPhone in Australia later this year (date to be confirmed). It's been a long time coming and there has been much debate about whether the Apple iPhone will be 3G by the time it gets to our shores and the carrier is highly contestable.

For those of us too eager to wait (myself included), we have taken preliminary steps towards the iPhone by purchasing the iPod Touch...an iPhone without the phone and sms functionality

Blast from the past - what is the etiquette?

Although a normal working day I had an encounter today that got me thinking.

The encounter that I speak about was with a Manager that I had previously worked with and unfortunately our history together wasn't a very memorable situation

How long is too long?

As fellow bloggers, I'm sure many of you can relate to the relationship that you share with your laptop/computer.

You check your email before you go to work, you check emails via your phone on the way home, and then the first thing you do when you walk in the door is open up the lid and wait for your life to come through

New year quandary

It's funny isn't it. We spend the month of December counting down until the Xmas holidays, we spend the final week before hand counting down the hours and then the holiday finally hit. We enjoy the first week without a care in the world, and then the second week we once again start to count down the days and hours and start contemplating various aspects of our lives and career.

Where will my career take me this year? Am I heading in the right direction? Do I like this city? Should I move somewhere else? Will the grass be greener there

To resolute, or to not resolute

With 2007 quickly drawing to a close, most of us will give some thought throughout the day as to our New Year's resolutions and whether we care to admit or not, we have all done it at some stage.

These days there are various debates about whether to make such declarations at the beginning of a new year, or whether it should be something that we just factor into our lives when and it's needed, ie. if you're overweight on 23 September 2007, should you start a diet on the 24 September or wait until 1 January 2008
